    The Sacrifice of Motherhood

    The Sacrifice of Motherhood

“Strength and Honor are her clothing” (Pro. 31:25 KJV)

One of the definitions for the word sacrifice is, “the act of giving up something that you want to keep especially in order to get or do something else or to help someone – Merriam-Webster.” Giving up your personal desires in order to achieve a higher goal or cause is the Christian Way of living. Jesus said, “if you save your life you will lose it, but if you lose your life for My sake and the Gospel you will find it (see Mk. 8:35).” Self-sacrifice is entry level Christianity according to Pastor Rod Parsley – I Agree!

Sacrifice is what comes to mind when it comes to Motherhood. Most everyone sacrifices to some extent but any woman who has personally experienced the miraculous gift of child-birth ranks high on the list of sacrifices made. For nine months she yields her body to the formation of the highest order – a precious human being. That sacred holy living thing within the womb/matrix of mom’s belly is a unique, precious soul, made in the image and likeness of God.  Life begins in the womb (matrix) at conception, but is recognized by God before it is formed in the womb (see Jer. 1:5). The intended purpose of God should be the guidelines by which that child is raised up – in the fear and admonition of the Lord.

Life is so precious but many times is wasted upon prodigal living – outside the plan and purpose of God. Mom has a special place and upper hand in the rearing of the child in that she is there from the time the child is conceived and throughout the stages of growth of the child’s life. Her influence begins while the child is still in her womb. Her nurturing, love, wisdom, and strength provide for a solid upbringing of the children she bears.

Mom sacrifices or lays down her life and lives for the  provision and future of her children. It’s a selfless task that has great rewards. She understands her role and the importance of her position in that she is shaping and raising the next generation to have great impact in the earth. She’s there for the scrapes and bruises as well as the failures and successes. She’s up late at night as well as the wee hours of the morning tending to the needs of her children. She is courageous in protecting them from harm or danger. “Strength and Honor are her clothing (Pro. 31:25).”
