My Aim In Life – To Glorify God!

    January 20, 2019

"Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:" (Pro. 30:8)

God wants to be priority #1 in our lives and would have it no other way. When Jesus said, “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness…(Mt. 6:33)”, He was giving the priority in life. Before asking for food, clothing, or shelter for that matter, the priority must be God’s way of doing and being right – the attitude and character of God according to the Amplified translation of the Bible. Remember the prayer Jesus taught the disciples, “Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be down in earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day…(Mt. 6:9-13)” Notice the order and where our needs come in – not first, but last! Living and doing things God’s way is what defines us as being “godly”. The writer of Proverbs chapter thirty expresses his desire to live in such a way that his pattern of life would never deny His dependency on God and that he would never take or use God’s Name in vain. His chief position in life – To magnify the Lord!

In 2019, Step Into It! – Embraceyour God-given purpose for living. Your life matters to God. He knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb and He also knew you would be one of His before you came to the saving knowledge of Jesus (see Jer. 1:5; Ps. 139:15-16; Acts 18:10). Plan your life around His will and not the other way around. He is your strength. He is your source. He is your life (Col. 3:4)! You have to know that God ONLY wants that which is good and best for you, that He may be glorified. He gets no glory in making your life miserable.

He wants to give you nothing that will take you away from Him, nor does He want to put you in a situation or condition that will cause you to take His Blessed Name in Vain. One of the Ten Commandments of the law of Moses is this, “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain”, which according to the Amplified translation of the Bible means, that is irreverently, in false affirmations or in ways that impugn (call into question) the character of God – disregarding its (His Name) reverence and its power.

There can be no doubt that a man’s confidence in God ought to be so strong as to remain unshaken in the most adverse circumstances, and his spirituality ought to be deep enough to remain uninjured in the greatest temporal prosperity, but this is but seldom the case. – Preacher’s Homiletical
